So a few weeks ago, I started trying soccer with the kids... both are autistic. I have had failed attempts. There are different kinds of autism I learned about in my parent trainings. There are sensory, attention, escape, and tactile categories. This is what I learned, and I am sure there is more to it than these. Both of my children have sensory issues. Tyler (the oldest) is attention-seeking. Jax is escape with some sensory.
The only way to get Jax on the field was with Tyler. Tyler was seeking attention and wanted to be the leader so it all worked out. Jax would not go near the field without Tyler so they went after 10 minutes of crying.
They had a blast!!!! They were actually listening to the coach and having a wonderful time for the entire hour. As it turned out there were two other autistic kids in the group too. i got to meet some other parents and learn about their hardships with special kids. We all went to chick fil a and ate lunch. i could not ask for a better day. i always wanted to be a soccer mom.
