Dear Sports Fan:

My name is SHANNA ARMSTONG, and I am a world champion in endurance sports. It took years of commitment to grueling training schedules to lift me to the athletic heights I have reached, and as a teenager I could never have guessed I would achieve so much. As I mature as an athlete I am looking toward the even greater challenge of inspiring the youth of today to excel beyond their wildest dreams. But please let me tell you a little about my accomplishments.

MY GREATEST MOMENTSIn the past five years, I have participated in over 150 triathlons.

In the summer of 2006, I won the female division in the Race Across America (RAAM). In the 25-year history of this arduous event, only 21 women have finished – considerably fewer than have climbed Mount Everest. The 3,043 mile coast-to-coast bicycle race, from Oceanside, California to Atlantic City, New Jersey, took 11 days and 22 hours for me to complete.

In 2005, I won the Ultraman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, for the second time. Ultraman is a run-swim-bike event in which athletes complete a 6.2 mile open ocean swim, a 261 mile bicycle ride, and then a 52 mile run. A total of 320 miles, which I completed in 28 hours. In winning the women’s category in 2005, II am the only female to date to have participated in and won both the RAAM and the Ultraman.

Most recently – this September – I competed in the “Le Tour Ultime,” a 2,523-mile bicycle race around France as a 4 person team. Whereas my namesake Lance took 21 days to complete this distance, I took (HOW LONG) to cover a similar course.

LOOKING AHEAD

In October I compete in the Furnace Creek 508, a blistering hot bicycle race through the Mojave desert and Death Valley, and then a defense of my Ultraman title on Thanksgiving weekend.

In 2007, I will compete in the Le Tour Ultime again, the Swiss Gigathlon, as well as two international Ironman/Ultraman triathlon events. In addition I shall compete in several shorter triathlon races for sponsorship and training purposes.

The Bottom LineAs the industry’s premier event, the Interbike International Bicycle Expo attracts the biggest names in the bicycle industry. Quite simply, I need help in continuing my goal to become the most recognized female athlete in ultraman competition. Interbike offers the opportunity for me to solicit opportunities to endorse product, meet media representatives and even further tell my story of my road to athletic success.
