Saddle Sores
Well I had a nice story about me acting like a baby at the 508 but the computer goofed up so I am writing a funny story about someone who thought they keep from getting saddle sores at RAAM.
This guy was an amazing ultra runner that knew how to prevent from getting blisters on his feet by using mole skin. He was doing the Race Across America and decided the same technique would work to keep from getting saddle sores. He put some mole skin on his butt cheeks thinking that he would have no worries during the race. We all have moments at RAAM when we think about quitting and he had one in New Mexico. He was in Cloud Croft and decided this would be a nice place to quit after he ate two bar-b-que sandwhiches that made him sick. He still had this mole skin on his butt and was in the shower trying to peel it off. He forgot to prep the area so he was having some trouble. He had to lean on a crew member to help him get it off. She told me the story herself. What she did was grab both peices of mole skin and ripped them off like bandaids. He got himself a wax job that was very painful. This guy did go on to finish the Race Across America after this. Pretty cool huh?
I was told to consult this guy about saddle sores before my first RAAM and he did not mention the mole skin...I wonder why?
Super Spin Saturday- I will not be putting this on in February. I need more time to put it all together and the folks in Wisconsin are going to tell me how. I want to make sure that this is done right so it might even be next year before I get to do it. I need more time to promote it and know that it will be more successful of done right. It is really a winter thing. I will explain what it is soon. I am going to Wisconsin at the end of the month for one.
Healthy Lubbock- We are having a board meeting tomorrow. We are going to discuss the task force for kids. After spending time in the normal world I am really disgusted with the obesity in kids. Since I am wanting to make a difference I am going to spend more time on this. My goal is still to try to motivate these kids before I get to old. I have been getting called "Ma am" at the grocery store to much lately so I need to start getting out there now. I am also going to be working with juviniles soon. I think that people are still trying to get caught up after the holidays.
Running Intervals- I have been getting up at a normal time lately. I decided to attend a pilates class to see what the rave is about and I guess I had the wrong schedule. I showed up to a treking class on treadmills. This is something I do know about so I decided to pass and did my interval workout. I was flying on the treadmill today and feeling really good. I had a bunch of .5 mile repeats and did them all under a 6:30 pace. This is a great workout for me.
Swimming- Mr. Flipper was no there today and I am glad. We did not have lane ropes in the pool so his butterfly kick would of made the whole pool choppy. I did bump into a friend named Wade Wilson and we did a set together. I was delighted to have a training partner but he did quit before we were done. I was not sure if I was going to make all the intervals but I did. I was feeling good today. We had a nice lunch afterwards. I still did not touch much on my plate but Wade always makes me smile. He is one hell of an athlete and has always been very supportive of my crazy goals.
Colorado Altitude Trianing Tent----yes I own one of these and it is really expensive. I do think it has helped but it might be time to start sleeping out of the bubble. Someone has made me a good offer to by it and I am considering it. The amount would cover half of my expenses for the year or give me the jump start on my book. I love my tent and willl be torn if I do get rid of it but I am not sure if I will miss it. I am going to look at some long term race ideas I have and see if I am planning any real hard mountain stuff. I do have the gigathlon planned again but I would go over there in time to get used to it. We are at 3400 ft here in Lubbock so I dont suffer to bad. I will let you know what I decided. I am in the process of selling some unecessary tri junk.
Thanks for reading
