My Journey: From Massage Therapist to Athlete and Back Again

Updated: Aug 8, 2024

Shanna Armstrong: From Massage Therapist to Athlete and Back Again You know how some people will say "Such and such saved my life!" and sometimes it's a wild exaggeration, while other times it's spot-on? Well, I think it's fair to say massage saved my life; that seems about right if I think about it. Are there lessons to be learned from this story? Maybe, but that's up to you, dear reader. I don't try to hide it: I was not on a good track by the time I left school, and things went downhill from there. For a while, at least. There's not time to go into all the reasons here, but most of the people who know me well would probably agree I was a good-hearted gal who just needed the support and guidance of a well-adjusted family.

The massage work brought me together with the people who believed in me and helped me find my best self.

Then came my brilliant career (just kidding... well maybe not. It actually was a pretty awesome ride for a few years there with the most amazing people I've ever met), and now working as a massage therapist is there for me again, right when I need it!

And here's massage saving my life again! This time getting it, not giving it. And in case you didn't know yet, Ultracycling isn't nearly as glamorous as it's made out to be!
